donk
well im rather bored - my first day off all week and i cant be arsed to do anything productive lol
still playing through ff2, im getting towards the end now, think i might be a bit weak for where i am and this progress system is getting irritating now
so what shall i talk about to waste half an hour?
was just reading about the grand theft auto series, there are about a dozen titles if you count the portable versions and add-ons - i didn't realise that rockstar north was scottish based - rule brittania! lets face it how many decent games have actually come out of yankland? - from my list i have several gta's which are british design (that explains a lot now actually), metal gear solid is konami, final fantasy, most fighting and rpg games are all japanese, all i can find thats american and decent is a few ea games such as fifa (which has got to be designed by europeans as yanks dont know how to play football) and the sims (which sucked on the ps2)
so pride aside where is gta iv gonna be set? there was a poll by electronic gamers daily or summat which apparently said fans would like to see an america wide game - odd that seeing as it was an american mag - did that cost them anything??
tokyo is often cited, although this is often a misdirection tactic which rockstar north like to put out so we have no real idea where the hell it will be til they actually reveal it
london, rockstar have said theyre looking at europe so london is a strong contender, considering the games roots as well, im not sure if theyll just stick to one city, even if london is particularly large, they could extend around british cities, or nearby european cities such as paris and berlin
america, i think weve covered the yanks now, theyve done new york, la, miami, las vegas and frisco there's nowhere decent left, those are the only internationally famed cities, i think theyve covered chicago as "carcer city" in a mini game after several years of mentioning it
i want an australia wide one - thats 5 or so big cities and then a lot of outback to play in, i think it could be on a very similar scale to san andreas tho so whatever - maybe theyll do it one day
as for my regular stargate slot:
i was impressed by this weeks jaunts
atlantis saw sheppard trapped by the mad genii commander guy with an old wraith dude, they eventually teamed up after the wraith drained a lot from him and i was left wondering how beckett would cure him from the effects, but it turns out that the wraith can restore life as well which was nice of him, i dont think we'll be seeing much of that trick but its still handy nonetheless, i also thought it was a good episode for delving into some wraith background stuff rather than presenting them as just deranged baddies
sg-1 also pulled out the big guns with the introduction of adria fully grown and insanely powerful and the jaffa getting all angsty and using the ancient weapon to commit genocide to destroy one part of the ori fleet, there was a line which said "they will have conquered the galaxy within a year" which is perhaps implying that this will be considerably shorter than the old goauld stroyline which ran for 7/8 years altho with the ori its slightly different as the goauld had occupied the galaxy for millenia and were all over it, the ori are invaders and vastly more poweful so one large attack will probably be needed - one series finale required
however: i want furlings!

ok i wasnt going to do this
on the late night radio show (ok its late night love) graham is talking about these new contracts that employers are making workers sign to say they wont have an office romance - graham has said he thinks this is against human rights
so this woman (who of course is a yank) has rung up saying how it's insulting to claim this under human rights when there is suffering all over the world
i accept the point that there are far more serious abuses in the world but i don't see how this is insulting or belittling to the suffering out there, human rights laws are designed to protect all people, not just the "oppressed" and no matter how trivial, while they may be relatively minor issues i like my natural processes to be protected from 'society'
the problem of course is when people go to far and make huge media lunches out of this stuff, as they have done (as this is happening here and affects majority of brits while real suffering affects foreigners and the looked overs)
being pedantic aside, surely it is against not just some human rights laws that some hippy wrote but rather against our nature, it is one of our primary functions to shag and so forth so why should businesses be allowed to stop this just because it happens in the workplace which is often the most social contact people get??
i dont particularly like the idea of my human rights being written down in some ways, while i realise that in this society that has developed they are needed, somebody else has decided what these are and while these are normally beneficial to me it often creates unecessary beaureaucracy and stupid lawsuits and ends up stopping the punishment of mass murderers (give it a few years)
unfortuantely its the best we got and in the world we live in its what we need, however in my little world unwritten law is paramount and common sense prevails, pity humans aint perfect really

a sad day
ok this is a bit melodramatic but theyve finally cancelled stargate (sg-1, atlantis got renewed), it's a loss to the sci fi genre if you ask me and a result of the bizarre situation the americans have on their tellies
the show isnt dead yet, the sci fi channel just don't want it no more so an 11th series could be made if another channel picks it up (it worked for them before, and countless other shows)
in an ironic twist this is the first series since the 4th that they made contracts for another series, as the show has pretty much every year nearly been cancelled or had to move
if this was in britain i assure you such a show would not be discarded so easily, there's a lot of arguments out there about dodgy timeslots (and time of year - summer tv is meant to suck for a reason!), competition from other channels as well as atlantis (ie saturation)
a pity bbc cant take it, they had success with the star trek franchises, altho they didnt show them first hand obviously as theyre american (one of the very few american shows bbc have ever shown in fact), they recognise that huge ratings arent everything, it doesnt have to be mainstream and hugely popular to be a hit, just good quality
well im hopeful it will be taken by another channel, it's certainly worthy of a renewal, its the longest running sci fi show ever or something and it made the sci fi channel (apparently - ive never seen it)
also im hoping season 10 will get better, '200' was fairly amusing and full of injokes i didnt quite get where they were off to at the end but oh well, everybody knew that was going to be a fun episode just to mark the milestone - obviously with season 9 introducing a new bad guy they would need a few more seasons to wrap it up, it shouldve ended after 8 if at all, and now it should last til at least 11 or 12 simply to ride out the ori storyline
anyway - save sg1 (just like it saved the sci-fi channel)
next! more geekyness - final fantasy, yes i finished it! who needs white mages!? tho i did have to go back and get haste, the ending was a crappy text one but thats what you get on a gameboy/old snes game
so onto ff2 and im enjoying it far more, obviously the graphics arent hugely different, but thats not what im playing for, when you start from 7 as so many of us have then you (ok i) feel that ive missed something in the story and am missing a few themes (im playing the remake dawn of souls - was the ff7 music always around or was it just stuck in the remakes to monopolise on ff7) so now i feel like a true ff-er
ff2 to me seems to have a much deeper storyline, more like the traditional final fantasies, which is ironic seeing as the first seems to be the least traditional, or rather lacking in many themes which built up over the first few, the gameplay in ff1 was simpler, you just beat up bad guys and moved on, levelling up as you go and were stuck with job classes for all eternity
ff2 has actual characters who you can train whichever way you feel best, there's a lot of freedom with regards to magic or physical attacks and a system which pros can play around with and novices can handle fairly easily, i quite like it!
and lastly! i know nothing of premiership football but i want to win money - how do i do this when ive got the expensive thierry, stevie g, and terry and know very little of cheap good players (and i dont keep abreast of injuries to these players i know nothing of) help!

my top 100...sort of
so having got to the final boss inthe original final fantasy game and royally screwed myself..stupid white mages..who needs to heal?? i decided to write this instead
i saw a list of the top 100 most influential ppl ever on the net, actually i only saw the top 15 but good enough
obviously such a feat is incredibly subjective, if you dont speak english you might not put shakespeare in or you might be inclined to go for scientists over religious figures...but whatever, i can't rank them as i have no clue as to who is more influential, jesus or muhammed for example
so ill go easy first - religious ppl
jesus, muhammed, buddha and confucius would probably be pretty high, id say jesus had the biggest effect but then you could argue that the romans and then european empires spread christianity so thats sort of 'deflected'
scientists
now it gets tough, there are so many scientists who aren't widely known but achieved great feats, obviously you've got newton, einstein, gallileo, copernicus etc as well as many more ancient scholars - you've also got the inventors of stuff like paper, the wheel (is that discovered or invented?) and the printing press
what about thinkers?
plato, homer, aristotle (i cant remember the order) and more modern ones like adam smith, john locke, karl marx and so many more that appeared during the enlightenment and im barely scratching the surface here, completely ignoring non-european thinkers
leaders?
depends on you viewpoint really, im english so naturally henry viii (for the reformation), oliver cromwell, churchill would spring too mind, maybe even maggie but a yank would probably go for washington, abe lincoln, general grant etc and if you want a concise list you could easily find over 100 in just world leaders, napoleon, genghis khan maybe...
writers?
im thinking chaucer and shakespeare just for my own language, i wouldnt know who was influential in foreign languages but again its gonna be big
who else would you have? freedom fighters, like ghandi, the pankhursts, nelson mandela, martin luther king..
what about media people? the first publishers of newspapers, the creator of tv and radio stations (i guess john logie baird would be in scientists) whoever created the internet (was it the yanks, i doubt it or was it the other stories that come from the british and european scientists)
then of course great teachers, architects, artists..i mean this list could go into thousands and is actually far more subjective than i imagined a minute ago
if you wanted a list of the most famous ppl in history then it could be slightly easier, newton and einstein are the most famous scientists but there's a lot of work that just never really put other brilliant scientists in the public spotlight, so thats just luck really
and i doubt non english people would think henry viii was hugely important, although probably our most famous king
so in conclusion - what a bloody stupid idea, ok not a stupid idea but an impossible feat to achieve, a good way to spark debate however
also in conclusion - start your own religion, they seem to be the most influential according to blokey

now im getting worse
yay i have a day off tomorrow, i feel like crap but im hungry so that's probably why
i wasnt meant to be at work today but i was, and it wasnt the best day, wasnt a particularly bad day but when you dont finish some of the jobs you want to do you (ok i - why would anyone else give a shit) feel a bit crap, ill be better in the morning and when i next go in hopefully and noone even cares
as for life, not that i currently have one, i think im in bargaining - you know those stages you go through as a coping mechanism - fear, anger, denial, bargaining, acceptance, whatever - so far i seem to have skipped fear but anger was about
i realised it was pain, and it tapped into something that i hadnt felt in a long time, my rage, which i actually quite like and was usually based on frustration or sheer anger than pain and it was pretty strange
i used to write stories, which was an outlet for it a few years ago but since ive left school and got less reason to be angry and bitter ive not been able to tap into it so my stories go unfinished, if they could ever be finished (they suck, i cant write)
the 'pain' as i call it conjured up good images for me but i realised i needed music to tell a good story, and dramatic images, on paper it just sucks, and is slow
anyway..food

i don't like these emotion-thingies
well i was very depressed a while ago, but i was tired n hungry but now ive had food im not quite wallowing in a pit of self pity, im still screwed up though
so had a chat with kiwi girl last nite, i figure she made it fairly clear she doesnt want me - i dont know know if that is that or its just because i live over here and she's there, she's in denial or im just too pathetic - i feel like my hearts been ripped out,
its funny because when i watch tv shows about people and emotions i can never understand it, the women bursting into tears or throwing up is beyond me, admittedly the love thing ive always understood a bit more but emotion has never been my strong point and now here i am bleating on about my 'feelings' and using cliches
what do i do? all i want to do is be with her and now i dont even know if its gonna be returned..but then why does she say she wants some alone time with me when shes coming over next year
i just dont see the point in anything now
on a lighter note which will completely ruin the mood of this blog - ive been watching tv shows again
i watched the latest ep of atlantis - that sucked, i figured it would be weak as it had to compete with the long awaited 200th special of sg1 it was a bit of a 'filler' ep really, all the focus was on weir and sweet fa happened - however im looking forward to said ep of sg1 tomorrow, it better be bloody worth it

ive worked it out!!
i know the answer! (to englands woes)
- appoint a new manager before every match! new managers always win their first game!
anyway, not a bad performance from the lads, unforunately i missed all the first half action and the second half was a tad flat, but when you're 4-0 up u can afford to be
i wont review the match or anything as it was an easy friendly, pity it wasnt a team like germany so wed remember it but even if it was an easy opponent you can only beat whats put in front of ya - a good start anyway
and i also came to a conclusion about war - it is pointless, im sure im not the first to say this but it is
i mean seriously what was the point in all that killing in lebanon/israel?? there was no clear winner and no real purpose, all very stupid really

why can't i just be labelled!?
well, this could be a long one - i should never watch the news and then write these straight after
quick question: why does it matter what size hand luggage is? if theyre allowing it again why does it have to be half the size? seeing as i only ever travel light i wouldnt really understand
so what's this title about? - my 'self identity' (do i sound like a new age hippy now), i was originally gonna call this 'i am a geek' or something but that was shite
basically im confused as to whether i am a geek or not, i engage in several geeky acts but not all and i also like 'cool' stuff (i didnt want to say it like that but i coudnt think of another word - mainstream perhaps?)
why im a geek:
i like (some) computer games, altho these are generally fairly popular games and i dont like online gaming (or rather am lazy and tight) such as final fantasy7 - this was the spark for this blog as i recently got a few of the older ffs as i wanted to see the originals and thought this action was somewhat geeky
i like sci-fi, not obsessive but i do like certain series such as stargate and i avoid most others because i get addicted easily, i also dislike "real" shows that are about people and love and such such as the oc, hollyoaks etc (the exception being neighbours)
i get obsessive about stuff when i start it - i cant just watch a couple of eps of something, i have to know everything about it - most recent example being futurama which ive only ever seen a few of, also the ff series, lost and stargate
why im not a geek:
(i dont wish to be too stereotypical as i know geeks who like to go out and drink lots)
im not your (stereo)typical geek, im tall, healthy and fit (not the attractive kind, im not vain enough to pass judgement on my looks) dont wear glasses
i like driving very fast and other adrenaline based activities
i like watching football
so what am i? maybe it's not good to be pigeonholed, but i always find it hard to fit in
anyway i was going to have a whinge about why the education system doesnt suck that much and if i can avoid most debts why cant everyone else? but im lazy, laters

not again!
im getting all those familiar feelings again, the girl from home is back on my mind and she shouldn't be, i doubt she even cares anymore, if she even ever did
but now i have no drive, im just lying here moping due to my frustration, it took me an hour to just sit up and write this and it aint gonna be long
thats about it really - im bored and depressed
