religion versus democracy?

this is an interesting issue, for me anyway, - the catholics want to opt out of having to allow gays to adopt kids in their adoption agencies - i noticed they were talking about it this morning on tv, i then realised it was the heaven and earth show and promptly turned off when christians started phoning in

now lets get a few things straight first - i am not gay, just in case i hadnt made that obvious in the insane amount of blogs ive made about how women make my head hurt, and i am not a catholic, or even a christian, i dont like religion, however i do know the catholic faith extremely well so i can argue with a lot more knowledge than my usual rants about muslims

essentially the problem is this - the government has been passing laws that restrict discrimination towards gays, or any other sexuality (because just gays would be discrimination..presumably) they also like passing laws that prevent discrimination against the young, old, short, tall, ginger etc etc if you ask me sweeping laws like this create more restrictions and worsen the nanny state but thats a tougher issue and im lazy

anyway back to the point, the government wants gays to (be able to) adopt and the catholics run several adoption centres (4% of all adoptions ive heard), the catholics are unsurprisingly not happy about this and do not wish to allow gays to adopt from them as they believe gays are satan

thus an interesting dilemma - the catholics are being discriminatory, but is this allowed because of religious beliefs? any religion will argue that they can believe whatever they want, the government cant control that (yet) but of course this relates to a service offered by the pope-lovers

fortunately britain is up there with the best secular states of europe and in general public opinion and the politicians are favouring the gays (i apologise if that term is offensive - i dont mean it to be, therefore it isnt) whilst the catholics have the support of the religious nuts we unfortunately retain - ie catholics, muslims and a portion of the CoE

i think this is a bizarre argument - on the one hand you have the whole freedom of religion and conscience, and on the other you have equality and gay rights - allowing the catholics to opt out of this legislation would undermine democracy (apparently - im stealing this off a mad woman on the telly) and essentially the rule of law and the whole discrimination issue, forcing them to do it would get the religions' backs up and it could be argued, restrict freedom of religion, and they may also close their agencies, resulting in worse service in yet another under funded area

what's my opinion i hear you cry! personally i dont really know, i would probably vote on the side of the gays, as i dislike religious organisations, but personally i don't see why it's so bad - its not as if the catholics have all the kids up for adoption and lets face it they are discriminatory anyway and if you really want to stop that you would have to force them to completely renounce that aspect of their religion, and as much as i dislike it id rather allow people with beliefs like that to exist rather than 'oppress' them - so im going for the 'sweep under the rug' approach

or how about i go for the anti-government-meddling-in-every-little-aspect-of-our-lives line, as i hate this bloody nanny culture so much i may even have to vote tory! (i wont, honest, ill vote lib dem and waste my vote, if i even bother)

getting slack

well a new term and still i revert to the old ways - i will work!! i will work! it's still only the 1st week, mind - once i have my deadlines in order it will take shape more but i can just feel it slippin away with every day i do sweet fa

dont know why i havent posted for so long - nothing really happening any more, a slight anxiety about my results but nothing i can do about that now

ive also been very naughty and not been to training, and not sure if i will be going during term time...naughty i know, i don't know why i dont like the class here as much - i think it just doesnt feel as free as the one at home, i just turn up randomly there and its not all strict and regimented - anyway, i have not quit! im just gonna have to try and train harder at home

what else - the world is too mad for me to rant about right now, and i have pushed women away from my thoughts

need to do something productive!

bye bye??

is this the end of jose? liverpool are currently 2-0 up with a quarter of an hour left

why do i imagine that roman might just sack jose soon (please note at present liverpool fans are singing 'byebye mourinho') i however see some probs with this:

1. who the hell is better than jose? fergie? just because he's winning this year doesnt make him better, id say theyre pretty equal - and he'll never leave united

2. jose is the best thing that ever happened to chelsea - 2 premerships in 2 years (soon to be 3 tho) - not bad, it's not as if theyve ever won it before..

anyway im not happy with my fantasy team - reina gets another clean sheet and has made several saves so lotsa points, i again have failed to bother buying him (money issues) i also have gerrard and drogba, neither have scored - i would prefer if gerrard scored but for some reason he isnt scoring again - maybe kuyt is too good

anyway - i think im gonna root for arsenal tomorrow

it's not that i'm worried about the next one even, just considering what i wrote i reckon i deserve to fail

arghhhh i cant wait however bloody long it is til results!!

really shouldnt be happy

ok - just did an exam - i dislike thinking about them or predicting results - i wrote something, i knew a bit so who knows what ill get....just pray - unfortunately i still have another to do which i dont want to...so i should be revising but im not because im too relieved now

so whats been happening in the week

well keeley has a sex vid..yes keeley the girl every man in the country loves, fhm didnt want to link to it because they have respect - bollocks, if it was any good they wouldve - i had a look and frankly it's crap, even if it is keeley - most of it is of the bloke with a small cock or some legs and a bit of moaning - learn to use a camera!

anyway enough sex i want a rant

yes its gotta be topical - big brother, and true to my word i havent watched it, which is actually annoying now because i cant really pass judgement on the whole racism thing, however i have looked around and seen clips and listened to people whinging (in case you're wondering about 20000 'people' have complained that one of the inmates is getting abuse - and because she's indian it's racism of course)

firstly its 'bullying' apparently - i agree with the bird who does morning on the radio - its women being women, cruel and vindictive which i suppose is bullying - but not real bullying as i feel its insulting to people who really have been bullied and had their lifes made hell, living in fear everyday and a bit of bitching are different

this is what women do - every single woman i know is a bitch, you lock women in together that's what they do, even the best of friends - i have seen it happen in every big brother before - the fact that she's indian is just an excuse for the pc brigade and the 'oppressed' of britain to get mouthy, if she was white i guarantee this wouldnt be an issue

the racism card is basically played because there are a lot of idiots in the world, do-gooders and people who wander around the world believing they are oppressed think that racism is abusing someone who is a different skin colour to the evil whites - it isnt you mad pillocks! racism is discriminating because of someones colour, if you are a foul person and happen to be pakistani then you may get called a fucking paki because you are a knob, the same way someone with big ears gets abused for being a knob if they are also a knob and subsequently gets called jug ears - i dont condone such action but it is not racism, bullying it may be, its slightly different and to me is a personal thing

i cant say whether this bird is being bullied because i havent seen - especially as women work completely differently to men in such matters - essentially bullying is making someones life a living hell so much that they refuse to get out of bed in the morning - take it from someone who's experienced it rather than just seen it on panorama and rung up ofcom - adults are generally far stronger than children in bullying and tbh if shes being bullied she probably doesnt care because she's hotter than them and she should be able to handle it by fighting back, like an adult

anyway - feel free to report me to ofcom

neglect

been a while since i posted, alas i have revision and little else on my mind, unfortunately i spend more time stressing about it than i do doing it for some reason so if i fail it's my own fault

meanwhile i did watch the latest two eps of stargate - atlantis featured a bit of a bizarre tale of an ark, the pilot of which decides to kill himself and bugger the others and 1000 people in a stasis thingy up, lots of moral wrangling and a fairly predictable escape later they actually manage to save the survivors and set up a colony...meh

meanwhile sg1 is back and on sky one i believe...

ive missed tealc...and id pretty much forgotten what had happened last time - but basically they fight the dragon, which requires a name...blah then they end up being transported to merlin - leaving mad ori woman behind and a slight chase ensues - which is cocked up by sam disabling the thing that prevents said mad woman from discovering them (which also prevented escape admittedly)

anyway, merlin gives daniel his memories and knowledge - same old story there, although not as bad as usual and daniel builds the anti-ori weapon finally - and then mad woman shows up

the others escape thanks to daniel but he remains and we dont know what happens to the weapon - it's only mid way - they have a good 7 or 8 eps to spread this out over! presumably this is where dan disappears for a while as he isnt going to be in every ep this series

anyway - night night, stress will ensue tomorrow

why does it only happen in movies

gah! she is standing about 2 feet away from me and i can do nothing! if this was a movie she could admit how she felt but in reality she's so reserved and i dont even know if she cares!! meanwhile i dont want to ruin our friendship

truth is she's moving on tonight and i won't see her again til one of us goes travelling again - probably over 2 years away

so i have to accept the truth - nothings gonna happen, it's all in my head and i have to let go and move on, so now i have noone to obsess over - its just such a powerful feeling, im angry and desperate but i can't do anything!!

words cant express what i want to do!!

insanity

seriously where do they get these people from?? - i am of course referring to celeb big brother, we are the only country to pursue this format (for 5 years!) and it just gets worse - normally the celebs are a bunch of nobodies but this year its even worse, not a single big name - they might as well be normal people, actually they are really

Please note i do not watch this shite - i merely looked it up and didnt recognise anyone in the paper (well ok a few but by name only)

these are the people i recognise:

Jermaine Jackson - famous for being Jacko's big bro, i noticed Tito was on another crap talent contest on bbc as well

Jo O'Meara - from s-club 7 but not the famous/fit one - Rachel

Danielle Lloyd - i barely know who this is, but FHM informed me - i vaguely remember the Teddy Sheringham incident a while ago, basically she was miss GB but got stripped for shagging Teddy (one of the judges) and stripping for playboy

Leo Sayer - he's an old mediocre singer, that's all i know

'H' from steps - he was in steps, thats it

Dirk Benedict - Starbuck and one of the A team

ok so that's six - i know half, which is probably about average for this 'show' but none of them are big or interesting

now onto the (bigger, or is it smaller?) nobodies:

Ken Russell - a 79 y/o bloke who directed some films ive never heard of

Shilpa Shetty - an indian actress apparently

Carole Malone - a columnist for the mirror??!!? how is that a celebrity??? i dont care if you were on celebrity fit club - that was ITV, no-one watches/respects it

Donny Tourette - bet that's not a real name, hes a singer in a punk/rock band called towers of london, who ive never heard of and i doubt many other people have - he's already been kicked out anyway

Cleo Rocos - was on the kenny everett show in the 80s - apparently was attractive 20 years ago

and they have also thrown in jade goody to save the ratings, with her boyfriend and her mother - the world's gone mad!

anyway i should be revising but im not - onwards!!

stargate atlantis is back - there seems to be some confusion over episode 14, so i just skipped it (if it ever aired - the nums just may be wrong)

well the ancients came and went very quickly - all a bit of an anticlimax really, although they did provide 3 zpm's, 2 of which went back to earth no doubt to help sg-1 in their more serious story arc

then there was an epispode with whales and a sun flare

then lucius or lucian or watever his name is came back and sheppard finally got to kill koyla (the genii guy)

and then rodney became a supergenius via an ancient brain machine - which nearly killed him, however it took him to near ascension til he worked out all they had to do was change the dna settings in the machine to fix him, which seems a bit easy

i don't know whether i enjoy these jaunts or not - it's a bit like sg-1 of the old days, having self contained episodes with no real overarching story arc unlike which sg-1 has been going through with the ori

what i dont like however is the massive gap between the middle of the series - british tv doesnt work on these stupid american systems and ratings and 'sweeps'! i dont like being given a cliffhanger and having to wait for another country to overtake the yanks to see the conclusion! - i forgot what happened in pretty much every show i watch because they end for so long and then just pick up - i need to rewatch the first half before i can see the second - pain in the arse!

first of the year

well, happy new year anyone who reads this - i wonder if the hits i get are people reading this or just unfortunate souls on google, well whatever

firstly i would like to say i have several exams in 2 weeks and i have done no revision and probably wont until the weekend...bugger

anyway this week i have been mostly obsessing about kiwigirl, i thought i was over this! but oh no, subtle hints here, there and everywhere really arent helping my mental state - she wants some alone time this weekend (with me) which sounds promising but knowing her i'll be lucky to get a hug - and then if it does progress she's going back round the world and i wont see her for a few more years, even worse - especially as i wont be very interested in any other women - just castrate me now!! not to mention the fact that i don't want to ruin our friendship by being full-on

damn damn damn!

there is no other news - work sucks and thats about all i do til i return to uni - i really wanna get plastered
