people really are stupid
wooo the parents of the missing kid are visiting the pope - that's a headline?
i already whinged about this issue and i have hardcore cramming for exams to do so i'll keep it short, this week i saw that this case of child-napping has revealed that there are 'hundreds of missing children in britain' - you mean this one who has now got a several million pound reward and fund for her parents to skip work isnt the only child to ever be stolen??? wow...
i'll say again that i feel sorry for the parents and i don't condone the stealing of children but why is this one so important, there are hundreds like her but do they make headlines and get millions put into charity funds? the whole thing reeks of hypocrisy, people care about a missing child because she's cute but why not every other one?? - not very fair if you ask me, oh and the parents were kind of asking for it - leaving 3 under 4s in an apartment alone...and these people get sympathy!!?

afterthought
right, i'll get back to revision once ive written this quickly - some more spoiling for lost..
basically ive been looking around the net and people keep saying this is the only ep to start and end on a flashback (or rather flash-forward) and going on about the different nature of this ep
however very few people have picked up on the events on the island actually being in flashback, the way the music changes - it's backwards, the way each segment of jack's future ends with a close up (like normally happens on the island) - i know it's a bit strange as there are events on the island which jack wouldnt have witnessed but i think the writers are just trying to give us a clue in the small details of the ep, and it makes more sense than a flash forward - season 4 is occupying too much of my mind

you are having a giggle...
lost has finished - and of course i dont want to spoil it for anyone who inadvertedly stumbles across this - so be warned
well, it's a 2 hour finale as usual, and we get to see what happens in every plotline
jin sayid and bernard remain but only blow up 7 of the ambushers, jin misses his dynamite, shoots a few of the others and they are captured - btw ben was contacted by the looking glass people and worked out juliet had warned them but he was too late as tom turned the walkies off
otherwise jack leads everyone off with danielle, sawyer and juliet turn back to check the beach
ben (and alex) decides to intercept them as they head for the tower, he claims that naomi isn't from a rescue boat and jack shouldnt use the phone, he then orders the 3 shooters to be killed
turns out they werent, they shot at the sand and hurley comes to the rescue in the camper, they manage to kill the remaining others and sawyer executes a surrendering tom 'for taking walt off the raft'
meanwhile in the hatch charlie gets in trouble with ben's associates, the others also find out ben lied to them and he sends mikhail to sort it out - he tries to shoot desmond but des heads under himself and hides in the station, mikhail follows in diving gear
in the station mikhail is told to kill the 2 women by ben, because they know the code and he kills the first one and desmond stabs mikhail before he can kill the other, fatally wounding her - she has enough time to tell charlie the code - the notes of the song 'good vibrations' - but the injured mikhail disappears
charlie turns off the jammer and sees penny, naturally - she says naomi isnt one of hers and there isnt a boat but mikhail appears outside with a grenade - blowing the porthole - charlie for some reason locks himself in before the grenade blows, ah maybe it can only be sealed from inside...but it's underwater so it must have flood protection..strange - anyway charlie dies and writes a note for desmond that its not penny's boat on his hand and one would presume des survives into next season
meanwhile the phone starts to work, and when they turn off the radio tower naomi makes a call - and then gets killed by...dun da dala...locke, who else - in the pit he was about to shoot himself with a conveniently placed revolver when walt (yes, walt) tells him to get out, he has work to do - that's all we see of locke
jack talks to someone on the phone who says they can find the island and everyone cheers, except locke - so it would seem the rescue is imminent
now it's flashback time - jack's turn
in this jack has a rather large beard, he starts off drunk on a plane to la (oceanic of course) and then drives to a bridge and gets ready to throw himself off - when a car crashes behind him and he becomes a reluctant hero
he does a fair few things drunk - checks on the woman he saved at hospital, causes a scene trying to get painkillers, claiming his father wrote the prescription - and goes to a funeral, we have no idea who this is - he sees an obituary in the paper on the plane and attends the desolate viewing (not a funeral) and claims he is neither friend nor family
he then calls someone whilst agonising again and heads out to meet them - it's kate...eh? he knew her before?? hang on - free flights from oceanic? want to go back? want plane to crash?? oh dear god this isnt a flashback - it's a flashforward!! yes it would seem desmond's vision has come true and the people who came on a boat didnt just shoot them all as i anticipated
so everyone on the net seems preoccupied with the this dead bloke - all we know is its a man, and the coffin is in a black area of la - the paper says he was from new york, possibly a loft, and his name seems to be J(o)....entham - not sure it's an o but it could be a ref to jeremy bentham who was an early nineteenth century liberal theorist - same vein as john locke but i have no clue who it is - favourites so far are ben, locke and michael - he was black and the only one from new york, and presumably everyone hated him for turning and running
the episode was quite mysterious enough with this ship business but oh no they had to put jack and kate back in the real world so i'm now wondering how the next season will work - surely it must be on the island still
i'm pretty sure everyone got rescued, jack has nothing and wants to go back, i couldve told him this - id rather be on the island than in the real world frankly, but it would seem locke and ben were right about it being bad to leave
whether ben was right in the rescuers being evil i'm unsure - he tends to lie a lot, i know locke wouldnt leave by choice, and i agree with him - most of the survivors are better off on the island than in reality
as for the return, 100 days spent on the island and presumed dead, they dont seem too famous, i'm not sure when the flashforwards were but jack wasnt recognised for surviving a plane crash, they all got gold passes on oceanic so presumably their return is known - why kate wasnt in jail i dont know, she referred to someone being at home - possibly sawyer? but they both seemed pretty cautious about something - maybe the hanso foundation is watching them?
where will it go from here? gotta wait til february for a bit of anti-climax and the unrevealing of more questions!

who likes charlie?
lost spoilers!
a good episode
this is the penultimate one so what did i expect really, charlie is the central character but in an unusual way - we see random flashbacks of various events, in fact 5 events, which are his top 5 moments of his life - hence the title 'greatest hits' (we also find out his band released a greatest hits album when he died)
all this is because desmond has again foreseen charlie's death, apparently - so this time charlie decides to face his death heroically to save claire and the baby (also in the vision) by swimming to the underwater hatch and turn off the jamming signal - so that's where that wire went
the ep is basically leading up to that moment when he goes for a swim, and is pretty good, most people seem to rate in highly and so do i - i havent really liked charlie before but this one was good and i actually felt for him, rare for me in regard to a tv show, so i feel the writers have done really well
of course this may mean charlie dies in the finale, he drowned according to desmond, though we never see this - juliet (who told them about the station) claims ben said it was flooded - which we find out at the end it didnt, so charlie may drown swimming back up or may be killed by the people aiming guns at him - yes you heard me - people! couldn't see that coming at all...
so we are of course left waiting for the anti-climax next week, lost is hard to predict in terms of death (unless you happen to know if the actor has left) but charlie is by no means guaranteed death, id say 50/50 next week and of course there are questions about who these people are, who saves claire (and when? - desmond) and where the hell is locke?
i found out that the finale is centred around locke and jack somehow so presumably he's not dead, but meanwhile in this episode we saw jack and co planning to blow up the others when they come for the women, they rig the tents to blow thanks to danielle but are caught short when ryan (the kid sawyer and kate helped) warns them they are attacking one day sooner than expected - so jack leads everyone off and 3 people remain to shoot the dynamite
so the stage is set for wednesday..

love life on hold
pah! love life is a bit strong - it's non-existent, but i said i would write about it and so i am, now in a much more fired up mood than previously - basically i have been getting depressed, not to the point of being my flatmate but im staying in bed too long, not revising for my exams and not bothering to exercise, the one thing that has been keeping me sane has been the now distant memories of a time when girls were actually interested in me, i have had nothing for over a year, maybe 2
but anyway, why am i suddenly fired up? because itv have angered me once more
they are stealing neighbours!! the bbc have backed down from contract talks as the price has sky rocketed to 300million quid over 8 years (75k an ep), money the bbc cant afford to waste on what is technically a small daytime show with a small army of cult fanatics
itv (or channel 5 - worse) havent yet got it but this is not going down well with fans, why is it a problem? everybody has itv, its just number 3 on the telly, it would mean an ad break in the middle (the ozzies have 2 btw - i hate ozzie tv) and that's about it
but it means so much more! i appreciate some fans wont care and will watch it wherever it is, i may do so begrudingly but the fact is itv ruin whatever it touches - they recently stole the fa cup and england matches (football, im not saying the s word) in a similar fashion, by outpricing the licence fee funded beeb, who cant morally spend so much on football or imported daytime soaps
why do itv turn everything to shit? i dont know, no-one does, but we all know it does - i dont think it is itv being so bad, it's bbc and channel 4 being very good most of the time, they have a sense of honour and esteem which is in-built, compared to most foreign networks itv look alright to be honest
the best example is the world cup final - both networks get equal rights as they are the main terrestrial suppliers, so when it comes to the final they both show it - last year bbc took 82% of the viewers compared to something like 60-40 in 1998 - that is how much people now detest itv, football is probably a better case than neighbours as itv ruin it with second rate commentary and idiotic pundits
the fact is to be associated with itv lowers credibility, neighbours will simply look tacky on that channel, which it is, but it gets away with it because it's always been on bbc, the oldest and most respected broadcaster in the world

mitigating my arse
this is probably going to be my most spiteful rant ever but i feel somewhat narked by one of my flatmates, plus i have exams in a week so im not in a good mood
i have previously ranted about this flatmate being a pillock and completely breaking down over nothing, (see past 8/9 months of posts) this 'resulted' in him failing an exam (and the whole module) in the first term, despite getting a decent grade in his other 2
if you fail a module the rules state you retake whatever you failed in it, maximum attainable score is a pass (ie 40%), so as not to give an advantage to slackers or whatever, as far as im aware if you have mitigating circumstances you tell them before you fail the exam,
i'm not going to get into the root of his breakdown because frankly i find it pathetic the way he couldn't handle the bizarre situation (he was basically infatuated with a girl) when i have seen others and myself go through much 'tougher' emotional issues with far more strength, anybody who has read one of my rare emotive posts will know i am not an emotional person, so maybe i do lack sympathy but in this situation i, nor any of my friends could believe the way he acted
anyway, now, after not even organising the resit in the time alotted he is being allowed to resit as a full exam, meaning he can get any grade, this hardly seems fair to me
i feel bad about what i think about this situation, this is supposed to be my friend, and it's not nice what i think privately, i don't know if it's jealousy, technically i have much better grades anyway, not that i want to sound arrogant because i will fail if i am, i've just been lucky
i think it's a combination of factors, if this was one of my other flatmates or friends i may not be so incensed, the way he acted and was so inconsiderate of us annoyed most of us at the time, and he is very arrogant about how much better he is than the rest of us, he wants a doctorate from oxford and all this crap and knows the ins and outs of the academic world, which is partly why i enjoy revelling in my success when he does the whole 'i'm a higher class of person than you' - this is not something i am proud of, but i can't help myself, i don't like arrogant people and i don't hide it well
also, we all had 3 exams, (and modules) - he did fine in 2 of them and yet failed one which he admitted he found hard, so this doesnt tell me he exactly qualifies for mitigating circumstances, especially considering he was in a state right from the start of term, in my mind he failed fair and square
it just doesnt seem fair to me to be able to fail an exam in december, wallow in grief over failing it so much that you don't even talk about the resit with the staff until may and then be given a clean slate by explaining you were having emotional probs, i appreciate that the uni should be sympathetic but the fact is he had months before the exams to say 'i can't hack this' and not take it or at least notify them, i feel that the uni should have used the resit criteria on him bearing in mind he essentially did it all to himself, but instead he comes back from a meeting and grinning like a chesire cat explains that he is being allowed to get a fresh go at the exam! again i dont feel good about this but i do feel this is unfair treatment, it just feels unjust to me - i accept when people get extensions or time-out due to a wide variety of problems (another of my friends had 'stress' for example) but they did that before they handed in assignments or sat the exams, they didnt fail it and go 'oh, but i was having problems'
i do feel a tinge of annoyance when people get extensions for what i would see as trivial matters, but i live with it, i could get extensions too i'm sure, i dont like doing it but that's my choice and it happens, but this whole episode to me frankly does not seem just
i actually hope he doesnt do that well in his resit, i sound like a bastard saying it and i wouldnt say it lightly with regard to my friends but in this case he deserves it, and im pretty sure 2 of my friends agree but we wouldnt say it out loud, i could tell when we all looked horrified at each other when he exclaimed it to us, i still feel like a git though
anyway, why am i such an evil person?
i do wonder if it's me with the problems, i seem to always find someone in the collective a problem, i did it last year to some extent, sort of a weakest link complex, but considering during the trouble period we all basically bitched about him, which i also felt guilty about, and we still have our reservations i do try find a glimmer of hope that i'm not totally screwed up mentally
as ive ranted a lot on this crap im going to wait til tomorrow to whinge about my love life

good old malta
eurovision has come and gone once again, thank god - i had a massive rant about it last year and frankly i can't be bothered this year, the political voting was of course present but we didnt come last - we came second last!
im not sure about the level of political voting, countries almost always give their nearest neighbours points, the most obvious are greece and cyprus, norway/finland/sweden/denmark etc but it's the eastern countries, (the balkans, former soviets and baltics) which have the most effect, i doubt a western country will ever win again, not that i really want to win it, but i like fairness
but serbia got loads of votes, so i figure the euros must have liked that song - it was complete shit however, and several countries, us included, gave it nothing - so either serbia is extremely popular (montenegro was fairly obvious), or just has masses of borders or euros have no taste, probably a little from column a and a little from column b
i was glad we didnt vote for that crap however, there were hot women in russia and greece and surprisingly we voted for turkey - why? because wogan pointed out the dancers were british - so 12 points for you then, can hardly say we're impartial either, sorry ireland but that entry was woeful (probably deliberate knowing them - 'my lovely horse' style)
malta seem to love us, i know they speak english as an official language and were important in the war - just looked it up, we had them since the 19th century, so no wonder, ah well
hmm and serbia does have 8 land borders, (compared to our contentious none, one or two) so there's nearly 100 points
it's just usually there is the usual regional voting, plus votes for the best songs, that didnt happen this year - there were no particularly good songs (good in eurovision terms) and i cant see why serbia won really, the british vote shows that i think, considering we voted for the weirdest entries and ones with the hottest women - russia should have won! but i think the former russian states dislike them still
anyway, i havent blogged for over a week
lost spoilers baby!! (not enough tho)
well this week we were shown 'secrets of the island' finally, as locke forced bento show him 'jacob' who is the mysterious god like figure he occasionally refers to - but it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be
we get to a hidden shack in the jungle, mysterious...but inside we find....nothing! yes jacob is invisible...of course he is, and locke calls ben a fraud, until jacob shakes the house and very briefly shows us an outline saying 'help me' for some reason
what is this crap?? are these writers being serious? i watched a recap special the other day and saw the writers/directors (whatever) saying how they loved to develop the characters and what i got from them was that while they may have planned the major characters and maybe a very (very) vague outline of the plot they really just make up the stuff on the island as they go along, and the more insane it gets (invisible friends) the less likely they will explain it and just keep ending the season with a others vs survivors showdown
anyway, after the invisible man incident ben takes locke to the mass grave (explain next) and shoots him, bastard, however the episode ends with locke not dead yet and i doubt he will die, im hoping some supernatural power will come and save him - this is lost however so maybe not
anyway, want to know about the mass grave? turns out the natives really are the natives - in season 1 we assumed the others were natives, in 2 and 3 we then learnt they had been brought here as part of dharma supposedly, now from ben's flashbacks we find out that most of them are natives - you tricky bastards!
and in ben's flashback we see him grow up after his mother died in childbirth (not on the island - he lied) and his alcoholic father invited to the island to work for dharma, he then follows his dead mother into the jungle and meets the natives or 'hostiles', who have been fighting the dharmas for a while - those barefooted nuts that we were originally led to believe the others were
he then betrays his people and they all get gassed, ben for some reason becoming an authority in the group, all the dharmas get thrown in the grave, bar 'roger' whom hurley and co met a few eps ago, who was ben's father
but what does it all mean?? as usual when lost reveals something it tends to help very little, we are now unsure as to who the others are, dharma seems less mysterious as a result - my main thought is what is with the bare feet people - we saw them traipsing through the jungle ages ago, are they natives? the others were presented in season 3 as normal and not the scary guerrilas they were before but now they may well be that, except they just nicked the houses off dharma
i think they may be dead, the visions of dead people and appearance of lockes dad etc would suggest that, meaning that ben and juliet arent dead, and likewise if the 815 survivors (and desmond) are dead surely they would become like the others? so hopefully they aint dead
anyway, today is the last day of the premiership and hopefully wigan will sink back down...mwhahaha

they had better not be lying!
ok lost just started to make sense and hopefully it won't very soon! big spoilers in case anyone stumbles across this
i believe i didnt mention last week's episode which saw sun and jin's past while juliet examined suns baby, and they had some fun with the helicopter pilot
this week - locke came back to get sawyer to kill his father, who happened to have also been the conman who conned his parents resulting in their deaths, oh and apparently flight 815 crashed in bali with all bodies accounted for...i'm so very lost
fact is things are starting to make sense now (from that synopsis it probably doesnt), which is compelling viewing so at least it hasnt jumped the shark but i am very hopeful that it wont for much longer - why?? because locke's father mysteriously appeared after he had a massive car accident, and the pilot after a helicopter crash - this all, plus the fact that the plane was found in reality all points to the idea of purgatory!! which the writers categorically denied many moons ago and claimed they had not thought of, or it's hell as locke's dad thought, either way the writers have either lied, stolen fans ideas, or are simply misleading us but it will piss me right off if they do use this idea - some fans will be happy that they worked it out years ago, and others will be pissed because it's a crap plotline and very annoying (i appreciate that they couldnt just say "oh you're right well done, now watch 3 more years of painstakingly slow storytelling" but come on!!)
i do however have hope that this isn't the end, the fact that locke's dad spelled out the idea is far too obvious for lost, so i fully expect this to be big until the end of the season, which we're nearing, and then be simply brushed aside come season 4, that is the lost way, which is predictable so maybe they will change tack this time
there are of course many unanswered questions - the others for example, dharma, juliet was brought there with no life threatening actions, the monster, people dying there anyway (nigerian plane crash etc) so im hopeful we will see an answer eventually
but until then im going to stalk message boards to find some theories - you want mine? at the risk of giving the writers a story i think the located plane crash is a plant by some higher power, maybe

democracy works dammit!
yes it's local election day, i do wonder how much the charade of local politics costs, they all do the same thing so who really cares? i did vote by the way, why? you may ask, answer: simply because some people believe that if you don't vote you have no right to complain - balls, many seats are safe seats and it doesnt matter one jot if you vote in such a seat because there is a guaranteed result - these remarks are made by people who dont share your criticisms and feel guilt about voting in pillocks, thats why i vote independent or just simply abstain! i don't know why i bother actually, just something to do - if youve got a voucher you use it? i figure the same with polling cards
enough of political ideas, what was i going to whinge about today? ah yes - women
i know i said i would give up on the whole idea of the opposite sex (and i'm not going gay, although it must be a lot easier) but eventually it takes its toll, it's not that i cry myself to sleep and want a 'relationship' but i am lonely, ive always been alone pretty much and even with close friends which i now have there's just some things in life you dont share with them - like bedtime, it's just that extra bit in a relationship (i despise that word!) that i would like
it's very annoying because i'm stoic and unemotional normally, im above all that wishy washy feelings stuff you see on tv and women think are real but sometimes life can just depress you - pathetic or what!!?
anyway, im watching question time!
